In 1980, Jikoku Dosei sat in the center of the Nine Star Ki year chart, and the lucky direction (where the year god Toshitokujin resides) was west-southwest. Years with the same eto are 1920 and 2040; years with the same eto and the same star come every 180 years (1800, 2160). On Kōshin nights, three worms (sanshi) living in the body were believed to slip out and report your misdeeds to the Lord of Heaven, so people stayed up all night together (Kōshin-machi). The Kōshin stone markers found all over Japan are reminders of this custom.
