Angel numbers and their meanings
Every time you look at the clock it says 11:11, or you keep seeing 777 on car number plates. Taking such numbers you keep seeing as messages from angels or protective beings is the idea of angel numbers.

1.What are angel numbers?
The idea was popularised by the American spiritual writer Doreen Virtue (who later distanced herself from her earlier teachings), and it became widely known in Japan from the 2010s. In finding meaning in numbers themselves, it has something in common with numerology.
There is no scientific basis for it, but people enjoy it as a mental switch: “when I see this number, I pause for a moment and settle my mind”.

3.What the digits 1 to 9 mean
For combinations other than repeating numbers, read the meaning of each digit and put them together.

For 1212, for example, 1 (beginnings) and 2 (harmony) repeat, so you could read it as “a time to start something new together with those around you”.
4.Tips for reading them
- Remember how you felt in the moment: it is easier to understand if you take it as a hint about what you were thinking just then.
- Take it positively: angel numbers are usually read as positive messages.
- Make a note: looking back on times when the same number kept appearing can show you how you have changed.

Is 444 an unlucky number?
In Japan the number 4 is sometimes avoided because it can be read *shi*, the same sound as “death”. In the angel number tradition, though, 444 is a reassuring message that you are protected and supported.
Where do angel numbers count?
The usual idea is to take any number that catches your eye and stays with you: on a clock, a car number plate, the total on a receipt. Numbers you see again and again are said to be especially worth noticing.
